Child's Winter Cap

Since we are short on members at this point, our current project list is small.  The Upstate SC Dorcas Society will be putting together 5 Operation Christmas Child boxes.  Included in each of these boxes will be a winter cap.

The design is simple, and I am offering it free to anyone.  This hat is easy to knit inside a day. If you make this hat to give to a charitable cause, be sure to  use an easy-care acrylic yarn, such as the one listed below.  Enjoy!

1 5 oz skein Red Heart yarn, solid color.
1 5 oz skein Red Heart yarn, contrasting variegated color.
4 #9 Double Point needles.

Cast on 60 stitches evenly across 3 DP knitting needles in your solid color, join to form circle.

Leaving long tail for weaving, cut yarn.   Thread on a yarn needle, and slide the 6 stitches remaining on your knitting needles onto the yarn, as if onto a drawstring.  Pull yarn through to the inside of the hat through the hole this forms at the point, drawing all the stitches together.  Securely weave all ends in.

This is a simple pattern, excellent for beginning knitters, and fast quick and easy for experienced knitters.  Please feel free to share it by linking to this post.  Please do not sell this pattern for personal gain.
